HISTORY
- Development started before Windows 7 had shipped in 2009
- Would be adding support for ARM microprocessors in addition to the x86 microprocessors from Intel, AMD and VIA Technologies
- Blog launched on August 15, 2011 featuring details surrounding Windows 8’s features and its development process
- Touch screen (PIN and pictures passwords)

- Uses a public-key infrastructure to verify the integrity of operating system and prevent unauthorized programs
- Could prevent the use of alternate operating system
- Microsoft’s philosophy is to provide customers with the best experience first and allow them to make decisions themselves

- Officially unveiled a new Windows 8 on February 19, 2012

- The entire logo is rendered in a single solid color

COMPATIBLITY
- 32-bit sub-edition runs on CPU, compatible with x86 architecture third generation and can run 32-bit and 16-bit programs
- 64-bit sub-edition runs on CPU, compatible with x86 8th generation
- 32-bit programs an operating systems are restricted to support 4 GB of memory
- 64-bit systems can support 2048 GB of memory
- Windows RT, the only edition of Windows 8 for system with ARM processors only support applications included with the system supplied through windows update to ensure that system only run application that optimized for architecture
MARKET PERFORMANCES
- 4 million users upgraded to Windows 8 over the weekend after its release
- Sold 40 million license Windows 8 in the first month surpassing the pace Windows 7 on November 27, 2012
- Windows 8 gain 0.63% in December 2012
